Learn To Cook

On all of my shows you will experience a well balanced meal consisting of three things:

  • Main Dish
  • Vegetables and Side Dishes
  • Salad

I may introduce a main dish loaded with vegetables so the meal in these instances will consist of only the main dish and a salad, because that is still a healthy meal!

In this recipe section on the website the three categories will be:

  • Main Dish
  • Vegetable and Side Dishes
  • Salad

This will make it easy for you to be creative and plan your own meals with selecting a dish from each category for when you design your own meals.

Be Creative! I want you to be. There is no reason you have to follow what dishes I have put together on the show. For example, you might prefer making a fruit salad with meatloaf. That’s OK, and it is going to taste great! If you use my recipes, always be confident they are healthy, low- cost and easy to make. When it is summer and fall I am going to use as many vegetables from the local Farmers Markets so we can use really fresh produce. Meal preparation should always be accomplished in 30 minutes or less.

Easy Meal Preparation
The most important part of cooking is being organized. Start with reading the recipe. Organize and measure the ingredients in the order it is listed in the recipe. Once the food is organized-then, put the ingredients together. Each dish of the meal should be organized and then prepared individually. For example, start with the main dish first. Complete what is necessary to make that dish. Clean up the counter. Then prepare the vegetable dish. Clean up the counter. Then prepare the salad. And yes-then clean up the counter! As you clean up along the way, you stay organized and you don’t have to worry about a big clean up at the end of the meal preparation, and also you don’t get in trouble for making a big mess! That one is obvious guys!

Hard boiled eggs-great snack
Bring eggs and water to boiling. Remove from heat and place lid on pot for 7 minutes. Crack the shell and place in cold water-this makes the shell come off really easy!!

Corn on the cob: It’s in season!
Put ¼ milk in the water with the corn. This makes it sweeter and more flavorful. No salt in the water, because it makes corn tough!!

Rice
Add a few drops of lemon and 1 teaspoon of oil to the water. This will allow the rice not to stick when it is finished cooking.

Herbs
We are going to talk a lot about herbs, but in the meantime use kitchen scissors to cut your herbs versus a knife. It’s safer for us kids!!
